Andy Rooney gets away with murder.

Asked if he’d seen the movie which portrays the crucifixion of Jesus, Andy Rooney derogatorily quipped: “I don’t want to pay nine dollars just for a few laughs.

This doddering old fool should be retired.
I know its chic to insult Christians, but even from an atheist like Rooney, this comment goes way over the line.

Andy Rooney has shown lately time and time again that he is out of touch with reality. I really think that the powers that be at CBS and 60 Minutes need to review his actions lately and do something about him. He constantly uses his time on 60 Minutes to blast groups and individuals he does not care for. He does not do this in an unbiased journalistic format and he needs to be taken off the air, IMHO.

Ah, come on. He was just being sarcastic. It's not as if he actually thinks "The Passion" is a funny movie. He's probably just sick of all the hoopla like a lot of other people (me included). Our local news has had "The Passion" as the top story every night since it opened. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it is a wonderful movie, but it is just a movie. It's not even the first or only movie about the Crucifixion, so I have a hard time understanding all the ruckus.
Andy Rooney was just being Andy Rooney. That's why they pay him the big bucks. His off-the-cuff (and sometimes mean) ramblings are his trademark.

Its not the comment, its just the double standard. Rooney is a big old lefty and is perfectly free to say anything he wants (especially about Christians) because he knows he will get away with it. Just like Corrine Brown gets away with her "you all look alike to me" statement.
Rush LImbaugh would feel the heat if he told an interviewer that he wasn't going to see, say, The Matthew Shephard Story because he didn't want to waste his time just for a few laughs.

I don't think he was making fun of Christians at all.
And I don't see a double standard in this instance. Rooney's comment is obviously drawing some heat.
Rush Limbaugh has said some things that I found offensive, but he didn't get in trouble for them. I rather expect to be offended when I listen, so I don't get too bent out of shape about it. If I don't want to be offended, I don't listen.
